Biography
Dr. Carolyn R. Smith is an Associate Professor at the University of Cincinnati where
she serves as the Associate Dean for Research at the College of Nursing and the
Deputy Director for the Occupational Health Nursing graduate programs. She holds a
BSN from the University of Cincinnati College of Nursing, an MSN in Community Health
Nursing from Indiana University School of Nursing, and a PhD in Occupational Health
Nursing from the University of Cincinnati. She is a Fellow of the American Association
of Occupational Health Nurses. Her research has focused on addressing healthcare
worker health and safety in the areas of mental health, workplace bullying and
violence, and work-related musculoskeletal disorders. During the 2023-2024 academic
year, she led the current study team in the initial development and delivery of the
Safe MovES simulation for over 200 prelicensure nursing students. Carolyn is one of the co-founders of the SafeMovES lab, a collaborative simulation space at UC.
