Biography
Soyun is currently pursuing her Master's degree in Health Informatics at the University of Toronto's Dalla Lana School of Public Health and is a Research Student at the Centre for Digital Therapeutics, Unity Health Network, Toronto. She holds two bachelor's degrees from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies and The Cyber University of Korea, with practical experience in user experience research.
Her research work is centered around the intersection of health equity, human factors, and digital health. She aims to improve care accessibility for elderly citizens through digital health interventions, while actively addressing the digital divide. During her master’s program, she has been trained to design inclusive, accessible digital health solutions, embedding equity into systems informed by human factors principles.
She led the “Interpreter Utilization Project” at St. Michael’s Hospital during the spring and summer of 2023. This project aimed to find barriers and facilitators to the use of medical interpreters and developed recommendations, to mitigate the language barriers in the healthcare context and to improve the quality of care and health outcomes for patients who prefer languages other than English.
Currently, Soyun is developing a mental health module to address the mental health challenges experienced by heart failure patients and their caregivers. Both groups face an increased risk of developing mental health issues. To address these heart failure-related mental health challenges, Soyun is currently co-designing an app-based mental health intervention with heart failure patients and caregivers.
