Biography
Ryan is a Human Factors Specialist at Healthcare Human Factors (HHF) where he has led and executed several formative and summative usability evaluations on a variety of medical devices and systems. In this role, Ryan has been able to leverage his knowledge and understanding of the current interpretations of IEC 62366 and the FDA Human Factors Guidance to advise and support clients in the medical technology industry on how to ensure that their products are safe and effective for the intended users, uses, and use environments. This includes providing guidance on use-related risk analyses, formative/summative study protocols, and human factors engineering documentation for pre-market submissions to regulatory agencies, such as the FDA. He is passionate about applying human factors principles to manage and mitigate safety-critical risks in the healthcare ecosystem and has particular interests in analyzing complex critical care systems, team cognition, and human-automation interactions. Ryan holds an MEng in Biomedical Engineering and BASc in Industrial Engineering, specializing in human factors and forensic engineering, both from the University of Toronto.
