Biography
Dr. Susan Kotowski is a Professor at the University of Cincinnati College of Allied
Health Sciences in the Department of Rehabilitation, Exercise, and Nutrition Sciences.
She holds a BS degree in engineering from the University of Dayton College of
Engineering, MS degrees from University of Cincinnati Colleges of Engineering and
Medicine, and a PhD in Occupational Safety and Ergonomics from University of
Cincinnati College of Medicine. She teaches in the areas of biomechanics, ergonomics,
kinesiology, applied research, and interprofessional education. In addition to
teaching, Dr. Kotowski’s research is primarily in the area of healthcare ergonomics
and biomechanics, particularly in relation to care provider, patient, and product
interactions and intervention effectiveness using quantitative, qualitative, and mixed method techniques. She has extensive experience in safe patient handling (SPH),
including helping to set up SPH programs, evaluating equipment in the field and in
simulated laboratory settings, and teaching SPH techniques to students and practicing
clinicians. Dr. Kotowski is also a Certified Professional Ergonomist. Susan is one of the co-founders of the SafeMovES lab, a collaborative simulation space at UC.
