Biography
Faisal Ghaffar is a PhD candidate in the System Design Engineering Department at the University of Waterloo, specializing in human-AI interaction and user experience in healthcare. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) in Peshawar, and earned his Master’s degree from the Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology (SIIT) at Thammasat University, Thailand, as part of the TAIST-Tokyo Tech program.

Faisal has extensive experience in artificial intelligence, having worked as a research assistant at the Thailand Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (TAIST) in Thailand and Academia Sinica in Taiwan, where he contributed to advanced AI projects. His doctoral research focuses on integrating AI technologies into healthcare systems to improve the adoption of AI within the healthcare community. His thesis specifically examines the role of AI system data modalities in influencing user decision-making, trust, and acceptance in healthcare settings.

In industry, Faisal is currently working on real-world applications of large language models (LLMs), leveraging his expertise in deep learning and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems to develop and enhance AI-driven solutions for complex tasks.
