Hakim joined Dana-Farber in 2016 to establish the Health Systems Improvement program at the DFCI to support Patient Safety, Quality and Efficiency improvement. Hakim came to DFCI from Toronto, Ontario where he was the lead of the Analytics and Reporting department for the CancerCare Ontario supporting the reporting and analytical needs of the Cancer, Access to Care, and Renal programs across the province of Ontario. His scope of responsibilities also included the Surgical Programs and Emergency Department performance reporting at the provincial system level. He started his career at the Massachusetts General Hospital as an Administrative Fellow; first non-American to achieve this honor. He has a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and a master’s degree in Industrial and Management Engineer from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Hakim has worked in Canada and the US, in the areas of strategy development and implementation, patient safety, quality and process improvement, organizational transformation, and advanced analytics. Hakim has experience in academic health sciences centers in acute care, rehabilitation, long term care, outpatient and community care settings, government agencies as well as in management consulting organizations (including KPMG). At Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, he is leading the team focusing on Health Systems Improvement through the application of Systems Engineering, System Safety, Human Factors, Computer Simulation Modeling, and Process Improvement principles and the team overseeing the Patient Reported Data program. Hakim’s team is known as problem solvers and are frequently consulted and engaged for solving system level challenges requiring complex assessment and analysis. His highly sought-after team brings a strong portfolio of engineering and analytical skills to all areas of the organization including research, clinical operations, and support services.
