Dr. Holden is Professor, Dean’s Eminent Scholar, Assistant Dean for Faculty Success, Dean’s Administrative Fellow for Strategic Faculty Recruitment and Success, and outgoing inaugural Chair of the Department of Health & Wellness Design at the Indiana University School of Public Health-Bloomington, Founding co-Director of the Center for Health by Design, Chief Healthcare Engineer of the IU Center for Health Innovation and Implementation Science, and a Scientist and Venture Fellow in the Regenstrief Institute. Research interests include aging and chronic disease, health information technology, health behavior interventions, social determinants of health, and methods development. His work has been published in over 150 books and articles and supported by over $100M in grants and contracts from NIH, AHRQ, PCORI, NIST, CMS, and other federal agencies. He received the Jack A. Kraft Innovator award for his role as co-founder of the subdiscipline of patient ergonomics, the subject of his 2-volume handbook, The Patient Factor. He is a passionate and experienced mentor, with over 50 early-career faculty mentees, of whom >1/3 are NSF-defined underrepresented minorities and >75% are women in STEM.
