Leveraging Behavioral Science and Artificial Intelligence to Design Better Health Care Products and Systems
DescriptionThis workshop will introduce participants to the latest research in behavioral science and its practical application to human factors in healthcare. A novel framework will be presented, demonstrating how behavioral insights can be integrated across key stages of healthcare innovation design. Specifically, participants will receive guidance on how to use behavioral science to enhance: user research, problem definitions, requirements listing, solution ideation, rapid prototyping, and user testing.

Following the presentation of the novel framework, participants will engage in an interactive session where they will apply these behaviorally-informed design principles to a healthcare case study. This hands-on experience will allow participants to practice solving real-world problems using behavioral science methods. Throughout the workshop, participants will also explore how AI can complement the behaviourally-informed innovation design process. The session will be highly interactive, with group discussions and practical exercises to reinforce the application of these concepts.
By the end of the workshop, participants will have learned to combine behavioral science and AI to create more effective, user-centered healthcare innovations. Participants will leave the workshop with a practical framework to integrate behavioural science into their work and will have gained the skills to: (1) recognize the relevance of behavioral science to healthcare innovation, (2) understand how to apply behavioural insights throughout the design process, and (3) use behavioral science to address their own challenges and projects.

No prior experience in behavioral science or AI is necessary, though a basic understanding of healthcare challenges and user-centered design will be helpful. This workshop is ideal for healthcare innovators, human factors/ergonomics professionals, user researchers, designers, and others involved in developing healthcare products or systems. It is also well-suited for professionals outside the human factors/ergonomics field who are interested in expanding their knowledge about behavioral science and applied AI. The workshop will be led by experts in behavioural science, design thinking, and AI, who will share real-world examples and learnings.

Computers or tablets are recommended. All other workshop materials (i.e., pens markers, sticky notes, paper, etc.) will be provided by the workshop leads.
