SE1 - Building a Training Program for Experienced Users
DescriptionIf you are not first to market, there is always a concern of negative transfer from other systems that perform the same function as yours. It is critical that Human Factors and development teams work together to build a tool where they are confident in the user-centric design. However, there may still be lingering concerns that it may not be used correctly because other systems require users to do X, Y, and Z. When there are no further changes to be made to the design, this is where training plays a key role.

There are a variety of tools available to train users: lectures, white papers, simulators, cadaver/animal models, etc. It is important to find a balance that works for your user, their skill level, and the environment in which they will learn. As these needs are identified, it is critical to involve other groups within the organization (e.g., training, sales, development) to ensure that the final program is both executable and accurate.

This poster will outline the user needs to consider, the different groups within the organization that should be consulted, and the different tools that were considered when building our training program. This poster will also discuss how our team balanced building a comprehensive program with costs, accessibility, and the lessons learned from usability evaluations.
